Lower back pain seems to be a common condition that affects the general population. Many causes come from having a weak core, bad posture, improper lifting, lack of exercise, prolonged sitting, and many other indications that should not be ignored. One great first step is to take a look at your environment and pay attention to what you do on a daily basis. How do you drive your car? How do you sleep? How are you picking something up? What is your posture like throughout the day? Are you slouching? Are you sitting at a computer all day with your shoulders rounded forward? It all starts with the spine and how you decide to treat your body. All of these examples can be problematic to your overall physical health, long term, if you don’t change something.

The term mobility is defined as ” the ability of a joint to move actively through a range of motion.” There are many exercises you can do to improve your mobility. The main goal is to improve your ability to move and be consistent with your exercises. The more consistent you are, the more your tissues can be changed and molded to improve. Some benefits of having more mobile joints are enhanced performance, reduced injury risk, less pain and MORE movement. One helpful tool you can implement into your daily routine is myofascial stretching. It can be done in a variety of ways such as foam rolling devices, massage balls, passive stretching, active stretching, PNF, dynamic, static and ELDOA. In order to prevent or improve lower back pain, start today by implementing MFS, change your environment and see how your body feels. You only have one body, so be kind to it!
