A personal perspective on three research peptides worth knowing about this
Mental Health Awareness Month

Disclaimer: The following is for educational and informational purposes only. These compounds are Research Use Only (RUO) peptides. They are not FDA-approved treatments for any medical condition, and I am not prescribing, diagnosing, or recommending these for any individual. This reflects my personal experience and a summary of available research literature. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before introducing any new compound into your wellness protocol.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and as someone who has spent 25+ years in the fitness and wellness space, I’ve watched the conversation around mental wellbeing evolve enormously. We talk more openly now about anxiety, brain fog, burnout, and cognitive decline. And while movement, nutrition, sleep, and community remain the non-negotiable foundations of mental health, I’ve also become deeply curious about the emerging world of peptide research and what it may offer in this space.

I want to be transparent: I have personally explored several of these compounds as part of my own ongoing wellness practice–  not as a patient, but as a practitioner who believes in understanding what I share. What I’ve experienced, combined with the research landscape around these peptides, is genuinely compelling.

Here’s what I think is worth knowing:

Peptide Spotlight 01
GHK-Cu — The Underrated Brain Health Peptide

GHK-Cu (copper peptide) is best known in wellness circles for its remarkable skin regeneration and wound healing properties — but emerging research is painting a much broader picture of what this naturally occurring peptide may be capable of. What makes GHK-Cu particularly fascinating in the context of mental health is its relationship with gene expression and neurological resilience.

Research by Dr. Loren Pickart, one of the foremost GHK-Cu researchers, has identified that this peptide appears to reset gene expression in aging and damaged tissues toward a more youthful, healthy baseline. Importantly, this includes genes involved in brain function, antioxidant defense, and inflammation– three areas with direct relevance to cognitive decline and mood dysregulation.

What the research suggests:

Peptide Spotlight 02
Semax– Focus, Motivation & Neuroprotection

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide originally developed in Russia in the 1980s and has been studied extensively — particularly in Eastern European research — for its nootropic and neuroprotective properties. It is derived from a fragment of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) and works primarily by influencing BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), one of the most important proteins in the brain for learning, memory, and neuroplasticity.

What the research suggests:

My personal experience: I found Semax to be one of the more noticeable compounds I’ve used in terms of mental clarity and what I can only describe as a “clean” motivation — not stimulant-driven, but a calm, sustained focus that made my thinking feel more organized. I also noticed a subtle but real shift in mood baseline during periods of use. This is not a prescription or recommendation–  just my honest observation as someone who takes this research seriously.

Peptide Spotlight 03
Selank — Anxiety, Calm & Cognitive Resilience

Where Semax tends to lean toward focus and cognitive drive, Selank occupies a different and equally fascinating niche — it’s been described by researchers as an anxiolytic nootropic. Also developed in Russia, Selank is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring peptide tuftsin, which plays a role in immune regulation and neurological function. It has been studied for its ability to modulate GABA, serotonin, and dopamine pathways — the same neurotransmitter systems targeted by many conventional anxiety medications, but through a distinctly different and non-habit-forming mechanism.

What the research suggests:

My personal experience: Selank is one that I genuinely appreciate. It has a grounding quality that’s hard to explain if you haven’t felt it. For me, it took the edge off stress without dulling anything. I felt present and calm rather than anxious and reactive. The combination of Semax and Selank together, which some researchers refer to as a complementary stack, is one I find particularly interesting for mental performance and emotional steadiness simultaneously. Again, this is my personal experience, not a clinical recommendation.

Why it fits this month:

Mental health isn’t only about neurotransmitters — it’s about cellular health, inflammation, and how our brains age. GHK-Cu sits at an interesting intersection of longevity and neuroprotection that I think deserves far more attention than it gets. Combined with the buccal strip delivery options now available, it’s become a much more accessible tool in a broader wellness protocol.

So what does this mean for you?

Peptide research is evolving rapidly, and the mental health applications are some of the most exciting — and least talked about — aspects of this space. None of what I’ve shared above is a treatment protocol, a prescription, or a replacement for professional mental health care. These are Research Use Only compounds, and anyone exploring them should do so thoughtfully, with proper context and professional guidance.

What I can say is this: I take my own mental wellbeing as seriously as my physical performance — and the intersection of the two is where I believe the most meaningful optimization happens. If you want to learn more about these compounds, the reference materials available through Beach Fitness, or simply have a conversation about what might support your goals, I’m always here for that conversation.

This Mental Health Awareness Month take care of your whole self. Mind first.

You deserve to feel sharp, grounded, and well. 🧠🌿
