This April we are recognizing both Stress Awareness Month and Earth Day. We want to highlight one of the best ways to both relieve stress and admire our earth. That is Beach Bootcamp. Here we are able to combine nature with fitness all while you are able to reduce stress. 

At Beach Bootcamp you have the opportunity to utilize one of the best pieces of equipment, the sand. Our beach workouts include but are not limited to fire house pulls, running, lunges, burpees, and pushups. 

When you workout on sand you have the opportunity to challenge your balance

The sand creates an uneven surface. As we are not used to performing on softer surfaces your muscles are forced to engage more intensely to counteract that imbalance. This not only strengthens your muscles, but your supporting muscles as well. 

Sand as a shock absorber

Sand is a low impact surface, which comes with its own set of rewards. The soft sand acts as a shock absorber reducing the stress to your joints. This means the stress to your lower extremity muscles are not under as much strain. The sand also helps your hips, knees, and ankle muscles strengthen as they are more engaged to assist with balance. Also, sand creates a higher level of resistance. This helps you to burn 30%-50% more calories than a traditional surface.

As I mentioned before, working out on sand helps to strengthen your stabilizer muscles. This is crucial for injury prevention. The stronger you are able to get your muscles and stabilizer muscles, the more stability you are able to experience in your back and core. This benefits not only heavy weight lifting but also everyday movements. 

As we celebrate Earth Day this year, it is important to remember how lucky we are to have what we have here. We should take advantage of the tools around us while also respecting the place we call home. Join us at the Beach Saturdays at 8am to not only take advantage of the amazing tool we have right at our fingertips and take care of our beach but to also get an amazing workout in to take care of ourselves and our bodies.
